Bits and bytes exported along fish

An article in the German weekly magazine Wirtchaftswoche (Business Week) is about Farice and big energy consumption of the datacenters

Large datacenters are looking for alternative ways to power data centers. Some are building their own solar cell based power generation others move their data centers to places that have green energy available such as Iceland and one site in northern Sweden. The global data centers according to the article consume 684 terawatt hours and are responsible for 2% of the world´s Co2 emission. Iceland has been one of the worlds largest exporter of fish. Today Iceland is increasingly exporting the abundant green energy in the form of bits and bytes, in other words as information. The article is in German language here Wiwo-24-2014---Datenzentren
